Yuri on Ice celebrates major anniversary with new art

Yuri on Ice might not be spending a lot of time in the spotlight these days, but the legacy of the anime can never be underestimated. Years ago, the sports series took the anime fandom by storm and Yuri on Ice has become a staple series for viewers in general. After all this time, the figure skating series is still a popular frenzy, and not a day goes by that fans don’t come together to find out more. So of course Yuri on Ice had to celebrate his last birthday with a special gift for the fans.

The artwork surfaced a few days ago to mark the end of Yuri on ice season one. After all, the show closed in December 2016, and it’s still a hit with fans. So how could you celebrate the anniversary other than with a new sketch of Yuri on ice… literally. This is what the skater does best.

As you can see above, the new poster shows Yuri skating on a professional ice rink while the world watches. With his hair back, Yuri looks adorable but confident as he skates past with wide open arms. Of course, you know Viktor is on the side to give Yuri his love, but the only question remains whether the figure skater is about to perform next.

For the most part, it’s hard to believe that five years have passed since Yuri on Ice ended. The show was very popular and Yuri on ice broke boundaries with his subjects. Not only did the show bring a strong LGBTQ relationship to audiences, but Yuri on ice treated issues like depression and anxiety with care. Fans were confident MAPPA would accept a second season as soon as possible, but five years have passed with little content.

Of course, there’s a movie in the works, but Yuri on ice takes his time with the project. The film was announced in April 2017 with an interim premiere in 2019 which was ultimately dropped. At this point there is no word on when Yuri on ice will bring its big movie to fans, but netizens are as eagerly awaiting today as they were many years ago.
