10 best album art chosen by Brandon Boyd from Incubus

As the year draws to a close, Incubus frontman Brandon Boyd focuses on his solo music, announcing that his final solo effort, Echoes and cocoons, should arrive next spring. Coinciding with this announcement, we also have new music with the song and video for “Pocket Knife” arriving, with artwork for the single done by Boyd himself. And it was the unique artwork that inspired us to contact Boyd to get his take on his favorite album artwork.

The marriage of his music to works of art should come as no surprise to those who have followed Boyd’s growing entry into more artistic vessels. “I always felt that music and art were hip related. There can be one without the other, but I have always argued that the experience is more enriched and would dare- I mean better when the audio influences the visual and vice versa. Diving deeper into the painting made the music even more special to me and I am so grateful that I had the opportunity to continue to develop both ends of it. creative spectrum, ”said the singer, who also founded the Moonlight Arts Collective this year.

As for the new song, “Pocket Knife,” seen and heard below, Boyd reveals that she was inspired by lessons learned after having nightmares as a child. His mother taught him how the use of totem poles could help him better understand what was happening in his dreams and it echoed in the music as he tried to teach this lesson to his young self through song. .

This is just one track from the new album that explains how it has handled a rapidly changing landscape over the past year influenced by the pandemic. “It forced everyone, literally everyone, to stay indoors for a cruel amount of time and we collectively lost our heads there for a while,” Boyd said. “Writing music and painting is how I deal with my life experience, so I guess I was thinking and reacting, adjusting and dancing in the middle of a rapidly tilting planet, so to speak. The album was recorded between John Congleton’s studio and my office here at home; neither of us left our respective homes while recording, we played a digital music phone game and it was great fun even despite the weird circumstances. “

“I decided to make this Top 10 Art Albums list in no particular order because I don’t have anything favorite, especially in music and film,” Boyd explains. “I sort my history with art, music, and film into subcategories, so I have countless favorites that span my entire life. I also limited this assignment to what I have. actually in my possession in my vinyl collection, so there are certainly a handful of the “favorites” that are being left out. All that being said, shall we begin? “
